Invoice line items distinguish earned work, stored materials, amounts retained, and amounts released.

Best for: Invoice preparers and reviewers · Requires: Retention-edit permission for protected values.

  • Work completed records installed progress.
  • Materials stored records eligible material not yet incorporated into completed work and appears only when enabled.
  • Retention/retainage withholds part of earned value.
  • Retainage released makes previously withheld value payable.

Review both current-period and total-to-date amounts. A correct current entry can still create an incorrect cumulative value if an earlier invoice was wrong.

Use Release All Retainage only after confirming the invoice and contract are ready. Bulk release changes every applicable line on that invoice.

QuickBooks-connected organizations must configure the required retention items before invoices containing retainage can sync successfully.
