Working with Submittals and Quality Items on drawings

Submittal and Quality Item pins connect structured project workflows to plan locations.

Best for: Project and field teams · Requires: Submittal or Punch List access in addition to drawing access.

Add or open a Submittal

Use a Submittal pin when a drawing location relates to a product, shop drawing, or approval workflow.

1. Choose the Submittal pin tool.
2. Place the pin.
3. Create a draft Submittal or choose an existing one.
4. Complete the Submittal in the normal workflow.

Open Submittals from the viewer menu to browse accessible items, drafts, comments, and related markup without leaving the drawing.

The pin provides context; the official Submittal record still controls its status, assignments, and approval history.

Add or open a Quality Item

Use a Quality Item pin to record an issue at the exact place it was observed.

From the pin, you can create a new item or connect an existing applicable item. Include enough description and supporting media for someone else to verify the condition without standing beside you.

Open Quality Lists from the viewer menu to browse items and their list context.

Use the right workflow

• Use a Comment for lightweight coordination.
• Use an RFI for a formal question that needs a design response.
• Use a Submittal for product and approval workflows.
• Use a Quality Item for observed work that needs tracking or correction.

Choosing the right record type keeps assignments, due dates, and reporting meaningful.

Permissions and roles

Submittal and Quality Item tools appear only when your project role can access those records. Drawing access by itself is not enough.

If you need to connect a record but don't see its pin type, ask a project administrator to review your project permissions.
