Connecting drawings to project workflows
Using pins, comments, and screen recordings
Pins connect a precise drawing location to a conversation or project record. Instead of describing an area in text, you can take teammates directly to it.

Best for: Anyone connecting field or coordination work to a plan · Requires: Access to the selected record type.
Choose a pin type
Available pin tools can include:
- Comment
- RFI
- Submittal
- Quality Item
- Extract
The tools you see depend on your role and permissions.
Place a pin
- Open the correct sheet and revision.
- Choose a pin tool.
- Select the exact location on the drawing.
- Create a new record or choose an existing one when that option is available.
- Add the details needed by the team.
Selecting a pin opens a summary. From there, you can view key information, open the full record, or continue its conversation.
If a record already exists, use Open Existing instead of creating a duplicate. The drawing location becomes another way to reach the same project record.
Add comments
A comment pin creates a conversation anchored to that location. Use it for quick coordination that does not need the structure of an RFI, Submittal, or Quality Item.
Keep the first comment specific:
- What did you notice?
- What response or action is needed?
- Who should be involved?
Tags can help organize pinned conversations where available.
Record your screen
Screen recording lets you talk through a drawing while navigating or pointing out details. The recording is attached to the relevant comment conversation.
If you try to leave the drawing context during an active recording, Constructable warns that the recording may be discarded. Stop and attach the recording before navigating away.
Creating a screen recording is available on supported desktop web browsers. Mobile browsers and the native app do not show the recording button, though users can still view recordings they have access to.
A recording can be up to 10 minutes long. Stop it before navigating away so it can finish uploading and be attached to the conversation.
Extract text from a region
Use the Extract tool to select an area of a drawing and capture text from it. Results depend on the clarity of the source PDF, so review extracted content before using it elsewhere.
Delete pins carefully
Deleting a pin removes the drawing marker and may affect its connected viewer context. It does not necessarily delete the underlying RFI, Submittal, or Quality Item. Read the confirmation message before continuing.
