Constructable builds the package from the project's own records. Each section gets its own folder, and each file is named for your company, the project, and the record, so the owner finds RFI 002 without opening twenty files.

A package with hundreds of records takes a while, so Constructable builds it in the background. Leave the page, start the next package, and watch for the email that says it's done.

• Progress you can read: each package shows Pending, Processing, Complete, or Failed, with a count like 214 of 903 items

• Several at once: start the owner handoff and a records-only package back to back, and they build side by side

• Easy to tell apart: a package with one section is named for it, such as RFIs Export

• If one fails: the package names the section it stopped on, so you know what to check before you generate again

Export the RFI log without building a full package

When the architect asks for the RFI log, start from the RFIs page. Export RFIs opens Closeout with only RFIs ticked, and the package arrives as RFIs Export.

• Submittals: Export Submittals in the Submittals Menu does the same for the submittal log

• Last month's daily logs: Export Daily Logs on the Daily Logs page downloads up to 60 days of logs as a ZIP, straight to your computer

• The whole daily log history: tick only Daily Logs in the closeout dialog

Permission-aware

Everyone exports only what they can read

The section list comes from the permissions of the person who generates the package. This is the same dialog as the project's architect sees it. Their role can't read the financials, daily logs, photos, or inspections, so those sections never appear.

• Two closeout permissions: View closeout packages and Generate closeout packages are separate, and every section also needs its own read permission

• Your plan: RFIs, submittals, and meetings appear on plans with Project Management, and the financial sections on plans with Financial Management

• Subs, owners, and architects: every project role can generate a package by default, and you can turn it off for a role in the project's role settings

• After the download: Constructable permissions no longer control a ZIP someone has downloaded, so check it before you send it

A record of every handoff

Every package you generate stays in your list with the date and who generated it, so you can show what went to the owner and when.

• Send it without downloading: Copy Link in the package's ⋯ menu copies the archive link

• Clean up mistakes: Delete removes the archive, never the RFIs, photos, or invoices that went into it

• Generating changes nothing: a package is a read-only snapshot, and it doesn't approve anything or change a record's status

• Records changed: generate a new package, because an existing one never updates

• Yours to manage: the list shows only the packages you generated, so colleagues don't see each other's

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in a construction closeout package in Constructable?

Whatever you tick. The Generate Closeout Package dialog groups its sections under Management Tools (Documents, Specs, RFIs, Submittals, Meetings), Field Tools (Drawings, Photos, Daily Logs, Punch List, Inspections), and Financial Tools (Prime Invoices, Vendor Invoices, Prime Commitments, Vendor Commitments, Change Orders). You get one ZIP with a folder for each section. See Closeout in the Help Center.

Can I make a different package for the owner, the architect, and our own records?

Yes. Generate as many packages as you need, each with its own sections, such as a full owner handoff, a records-only package, and a financial package. They build side by side, and each one shows up as its own package in your list.

Do I have to wait on the page while the package builds?

No. Packages build in the background, so you can leave the page or start another package. Constructable emails you when the package is complete or if it fails.

How do I export just the RFI log or the submittal log?

On the RFIs page, open the RFIs Menu and select Export RFIs. On the Submittals page, select Export Submittals from the Submittals Menu. Each opens Closeout with only that section ticked, and the package is named for it, such as RFIs Export. To pull up to 60 days of daily logs, use Export Daily Logs on the Daily Logs page. Can a subcontractor or owner generate a package, and what will they see?

Every project role can view and generate closeout packages by default, and you can turn that off for a role in the project's role settings. The section list is built from the person's own permissions, so they only see the sections they can already read, and the package only holds records they can open. See Roles and permissions in the Help Center.

Does the package update when we change a record after generating it?

No. A package is a snapshot of the project at the moment you generate it, and it never updates. After records change, generate a new package. Earlier packages stay in your list, so you can see what you sent and when.

Where do O&M manuals, warranties, and as-builts go?

Keep them in Documents, in the folders you set up, and they go out in the package's Documents folder. Constructable doesn't track them as a closeout checklist or request them from subs. See our construction document management software.

Does generating a package lock or close the project?

No. Generating a package only reads the project. It doesn't close the project, approve anything, or change the status of any record.

Can I send the package without downloading it?

Yes. Open the package's ⋯ menu and choose Copy Link to copy the archive link, then send it to the owner. Once someone downloads the ZIP, Constructable permissions no longer control it, so open it and check it before you send it.
